Effective May 6th, 2024, Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has launched an auto-mode settlement system for advance claims related to education, marriage, and housing, extending the benefits of automation beyond illness-related claims.
The Ministry of Labor and Employment heralded this development, emphasizing its significant impact on enhancing the ease of living for millions of EPFO members across the nation. Through this automated system, claims are processed swiftly and efficiently, reducing the settlement period from the standard 10 days to a mere 3-4 days.
EPFO’s latest initiative builds upon the success of its previous auto-mode settlement introduced in April 2020 for illness-related advances. Now, with the expansion of the scope to include education, marriage, and housing purposes, members can access their funds more conveniently and expeditiously than ever before.
Highlighting the tangible benefits of this initiative, EPFO revealed that during the financial year 2023-24, approximately 2.84 crore advance claims were settled, with an impressive 89.52 lakh claims processed through the auto-mode settlement. Furthermore, the ministry disclosed that during the initial rollout period, EPFO has already approved 13,011 cases, amounting to Rs. 45.95 crores, under this new initiative.
Under the revamped system, the limit for advance claims has been doubled from Rs. 50,000/- to Rs. 1,00,000/-, offering members greater flexibility and access to their savings when needed most. Moreover, the entire process is driven by IT systems, eliminating human intervention and ensuring seamless processing based on KYC, eligibility, and bank validation criteria.
EPFO’s move to introduce auto-mode settlement for education, marriage, and housing advances marks a significant milestone in the organization’s ongoing efforts to modernize and enhance its services. By providing speedy and hassle-free access to funds, EPFO aims to empower its members to meet their essential financial requirements promptly and efficiently.
