As part of its mission to accelerate AI-driven language technologies, Bhashini, India’s National Language Translation Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), continues to expand its outreach under the Bhashini Rajayam and Bhashini Seva Sanchalan programs. These initiatives aim to preserve India’s rich linguistic heritage, foster inclusive digital innovation, and empower developers and startups across India in the multilingual tech ecosystem.
Today, at IIHMR University, Jaipur, Bhashini hosted a Hackathon Outreach Event, in collaboration with iStart Rajasthan and IIHMR’s Startup Incubation Wing. The event highlighted four flagship hackathons designed to drive innovation in real-world applications:
- Bhashini Snarakshan Hackathon – Focused on the preservation of Kaithi, a historical language of Bihar, through AI model development.
- Bhashini Startup Velocity – Involves solving live problem statements from the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Lok Sabha Secretariat, and Central Information Commission.
- Bhashini Domain Innovation Challenge – Addresses key challenges from EHospital systems and the Immigration Bureau.
- LEAP (Law Enforcement and Policing Hackathon) – Presents problem statements from the National Police Academy, NCRB, and Ministry of Home Affairs (Police Division)
Amitabh Nag, CEO, Bhashini, Ministry of Electronics and IT, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, National Informatics Centre (NIC) and National Police academy and other key stakeholders, attended the event. They provided insights into pressing challenges and opportunities for applying AI and NLP in multilingual contexts.
The event was graced by the Vice Chancellor and Director of IIHMR University, reflecting strong institutional support for technology-driven public service innovations.
The event brought together senior government officials, tech leaders, and institutional stakeholders, including Amitabh Nag, CEO, Bhashini, Ministry of Electronics and IT; Senior officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, National Informatics Centre (NIC), and Vice Chancellor and Director, IIHMR University, reinforcing institutional support for AI-driven public service solutions.
