NCERT to Release Updated CBSE Syllabus for Classes 3 and 6

In a bid to align with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023, the National Council of Education Research (NCERT) is set to roll out an updated curriculum for Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Classes 3 and 6. This move, slated to be implemented from the academic year 2024-25, aims to bring about a holistic educational environment focusing on arts, physical education, well-being, and skill development.

A recent notice from the NCERT outlined the need for changes in school timetables to accommodate the updated syllabi. It emphasized the importance of collaboration among CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) to effectively implement these changes. This joint effort, supported by the Department of School Education and Literacy, is in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The notice urged CBSE to proactively communicate these developments to school heads, teachers, and parents. It recommended the formulation of strategies to engage students in Grades 3 and 6 with playful and activity-based learning approaches. The revised syllabi for Grade 3 encompass a range of subjects such as Arts, Physical Education, Vocational Education, and The World Around Us, aligning with current educational perspectives.

To facilitate a smooth transition for students, NCERT will provide a syllabus bridge programme for Grade 6 and clear guidelines for Grade 3. These initiatives aim to introduce new pedagogical perspectives and areas of study, including activity books and textbooks that reflect the NCF-SE 2023.

In preparation for the upcoming academic year, schools affiliated with CBSE will receive new textbooks that match the revised syllabi. The notice underlined the importance of distributing this information to all stakeholders, including school leaders, departments, teachers, and parents. This proactive approach seeks to assist students in adapting to the updated curriculum while raising awareness among the broader community.
