Bharat Lal’s Tenure as NHRC Secretary-General Extended by One Year

Bharat Lal, a retired senior officer of the IFS Officer, has been granted an additional year as the secretary-general of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC)-India. The decision was announced by the Cabinet’s Appointments Committee, extending his tenure until June 30, 2025, or until further directives.

He is a distinguished officer from the Gujarat cadre of the 1988 batch, has been serving at the NHRC on a contract basis since 2023. His appointment came with the rank and pay equivalent to a Secretary to the Government of India.
