Institutions can now offer two new diploma and undergraduate level courses in the field of engineering and technology as it has been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE. The statutory body has taken this decision to create a manufacturing ecosystem of the semiconductor mission under the Program for Development of Semiconductor and Display and to make Indian students ‘market-ready’.

The courses which will be offered are a diploma in IC manufacturing and BTech or BE in electronic engineering (VLSI design and technology). AICTE has permitted eligible institutions to offer courses; however, they have to strictly follow the guidelines issued by AICTE. It also informed that the model curriculum for the courses will be published soon.
An official circular issued by AICTE stated, “With reference to the Program for Development of Semiconductors and Display manufacturing ecosystem in India as approved by the Cabinet. it is pertinent that the aspirations of India to set up semiconductors and display manufacturing ecosystem would require a market-ready, talent pool in the field of semiconductors and display which ultimately’ would require a clear roadmap of capacity building.”
