Senior IAS officer Rajeev Verma has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Delhi, succeeding Dharmendra, who is retiring on September 30, 2025. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an official order transferring Verma from Chandigarh, where he has served as Chief Secretary since January 2024. He is set to assume charge from October 1, 2025, or from the date of joining, whichever is later.
Verma is a 1992-batch officer from the AGMUT cadre and holds an MTech degree from IIT. A native of Uttar Pradesh, he has extensive administrative experience, including roles as Finance and Revenue Secretary in the Delhi government between 2018 and 2022. He has also held important positions in Delhi’s Transport department and other key government departments at the secretary and additional secretary levels.
His bureaucratic career spans more than three decades, with stints in the central government’s Defence, Power, and Health and Family Welfare ministries. His diverse expertise and experience in both state and central roles equip him well to lead Delhi’s administration at a crucial time, overseeing priority projects like Yamuna rejuvenation, excise reforms, and infrastructure management.
Rajeev Verma’s appointment reflects a blend of technical acumen and practical governance experience that will be vital for steering Delhi’s complex urban challenges going forward.
