The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), BHU has signed a MoU with Hindalco Industries Limited to launch a six-month, research-oriented internship programme aimed at providing M.Tech students with hands-on experience in industrial operations. The internships will be conducted at Hindalco’s Renukoot plant in Uttar Pradesh.
This collaborative initiative is designed to immerse engineering students in real-world industrial settings, focusing on areas such as production, process control, and innovation. The programme is expected to not only boost students’ practical knowledge but also contribute meaningfully to national development initiatives like ‘Make in India’, ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.
Highlighting the significance of the collaboration, IIT-BHU Director Prof. Amit Patra said, ‘This partnership will allow students to undertake research in a dynamic industrial environment, equipping them with deeper insights and fostering innovation. Collaborating with a global industry leader like Hindalco brings tremendous value to this initiative.’
Echoing the sentiment, Prof. Sushant Kumar Srivastava added, ‘This MoU will significantly strengthen students’ exposure to industrial processes and sharpen their professional capabilities, while also driving innovation in India’s metal sector. It marks a leap forward in enriching technical education.’
With aluminium-based technologies gaining momentum across various industries, the partnership between a premier academic institution and a leading industrial player is being seen as a step towards long-term industrial advancement and capacity building in India’s engineering ecosystem.
