In a move to boost language inclusivity in India’s innovation landscape, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, and Bhashini, the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) in the national capital on Thursday.
The strategic partnership seeks to promote vernacular innovation by integrating language technology into AIM’s initiatives across the country. The SoI was signed in the presence of Deepak Bagla, Mission Director of Atal Innovation Mission, and Amitabh Nag, Chief Executive Officer of the Digital India Bhashini Division.
Discussions during the signing ceremony focused on embedding Bhashini’s cutting-edge language tools within AIM’s wide-ranging programs to empower grassroots innovators and startups to build multilingual digital solutions.
As a first collaborative step, content developed by the World Intellectual Property Organization Academy will be translated into various Indian languages using Bhashini’s technology. This initiative is in line with the existing Joint Letter of Intent between AIM, NITI Aayog, and WIPO to enhance access to intellectual property learning resources in regional languages.
The partnership also envisions the future gamification of learning content through Bhashini’s platforms, aiming to make knowledge dissemination more engaging and accessible. Startups and innovators within the AIM network will gain access to Bhashini’s tools and sandbox environments, supporting multilingual product development.
Furthermore, both AIM and Bhashini plan to launch several joint initiatives to empower grassroots innovators. AIM’s Atal Incubation Centres (AICs), Atal Community Innovation Centres (ACICs), and the upcoming Language Inclusive Program for Innovation (LIPI) centres will leverage Bhashini’s platforms for skilling, training, and capacity-building efforts, particularly in local and regional languages.
‘This collaboration supports our broader goal of fostering inclusive innovation. By integrating language technologies with AIM’s initiatives, we are taking a practical step toward ensuring accessibility and opportunity for innovators across India, regardless of language,’ said Deepak Bagla, Mission Director, Atal Innovation Mission.
Sharing his thoughts Amitabh Nag, CEO, Digital India Bhashini Division, said, ‘Language should never be a barrier to innovation. Through this collaboration with Atal Innovation Mission, we aim to empower every Indian innovator-regardless of linguistic background with the tools they need to participate fully in the digital and entrepreneurial revolution. Bhashini’s language technologies will help bridge communication gaps and open new avenues for inclusive growth across the country.’
