India, Bangladesh Partner to Modernise Signalling System of Dhaka-Tongi-Joydebpur Rail Line

Bangladesh: The contract was signed in the presence of the Railway Minister of Bangladesh, Md. Nurul Islam Sujon, and High Commissioner of India in Bangladesh, Pranay Verma. The implementation of this project will alleviate congestion and enhance the efficiency of Dhaka-Tongi-Joydebour section, which is one of the busiest rail lines in Bangladesh.

The project is being executed under the Line of Credit provided by India to Bangladesh, as stated in a press release issued by the Indian High Commission. During the event, Verma emphasized the priority given by both the Governments of India and Bangladesh to collaborate on constructing essential connectivity infrastructure and strengthening bilateral economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties.

The High Commissioner highlighted the significance of Indian-supported railway projects in Bangladesh, with 17 projects worth approximately USD 2 billion, representing 20% of the total commitment under Indian concessional loans allotted to the railway sector in Bangladesh.
