Ministry of Defence Inks Contract Worth Rs. 1,752 Cr for Stabilised Remote Control Guns for Navy & Coast Guard

Fostering maritime security capabilities, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced the signing of a crucial contract with Advanced Weapon Equipment India Ltd. (AWEIL), Kanpur, on Wednesday. Valued at Rs. 1,752 crores, the contract entails the manufacturing and supply of 463 indigenously produced 12.7 mm Stabilised Remote Control Guns (SRCG) for both the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard.

The Stabilised Remote Control Guns (SRCG) are poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing the defensive capabilities of the Indian Navy and Coast Guard, particularly in combating small, asymmetric threats that may pose risks to ships both during the day and at night.

With an Indigenous Content (IC) exceeding 85%, this acquisition aligns closely with the national vision of ‘Aatmanirbharta in Defence,’ underscoring the nation’s commitment to self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

This contract not only signifies a significant stride towards indigenous production but also promises to be a catalyst for the growth of the domestic defence industry. Over 125 Indian vendors and Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) are expected to benefit from this contract over the next five years, thus fostering a robust ecosystem for defence manufacturing in the country.

The SRCG technology offers a versatile solution to the evolving security challenges faced by India’s maritime forces, providing them with enhanced precision and effectiveness in engaging potential threats. By investing in indigenous defence capabilities, the MoD aims to strengthen national security while simultaneously promoting domestic innovation and self-sufficiency in defence production.
