The theme for India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024, ‘The Future is Now’, was unveiled yesterday by Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region. The theme highlights India’s pivotal role in the technological revolution, with IMC 2024 set to bring together global leaders, visionaries, and innovators to shape the technologies transforming our world today.
During the event, Scindia launched the IMC 2024 application and website, opening registrations for delegates, visitors, academia, government, and media. In his keynote address, he emphasized the power of technology in uniting people across India, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of bridging divides through communication networks.
‘Technology is best when it brings people together. There can be no better example than our country Bharat,’ said Scindia. He highlighted India’s progress from a consumer to a supplier of technology, praising initiatives such as the Telecom Act 2023, PLI Scheme, and the rapid 5G rollout. Shri Scindia also announced that the rules for the Telecom Act 2023 will be notified within the next 180 days.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Telecom Excellence Awards 2023, honoring individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions in telecom. The awardees include:
- Dr. Kiran Kumar Kuchi, Professor IIT Hyderabad – Telecom technology advancement and mentorship
- Elena Geo Systems Private Limited – Advancing NavIC-based devices and applications
- Astrome Technologies Private Limited – Pioneering millimeter-wave multi-beam technology
- Tejas Networks Limited – Advancing telecom innovations and equipment manufacturing
- Nivetti Systems Private Limited – Secure networking products
IMC-2024, WTSA-2024 & GSS-2024
The eighth edition of Asia’s premier digital technology exhibition, IMC, co-hosted by the DoT and Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), will be held from October 15 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Concurrently, India will host the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly New Delhi 2024 (WTSA 2024) and Global Standards Symposium (GSS 2024) from October 14-24 at the same venue.
IMC 2024 Highlights
IMC 2024 aims to showcase the latest advancements in 6G, AI, semiconductors, broadcasting, electronics manufacturing, Satcom, quantum, and security. With over 400 exhibitors, 640 startups, and more than 150,000 attendees expected, the event will feature over 900 technology use cases, 100+ sessions, and talks by 600+ speakers. The startup program Aspire will facilitate over 500 one-on-one meetings with potential investors, incubators, and VC funds.
IMC 2024 App
The IMC 2024 app, available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store, combines cutting-edge AI technology with user-friendly features for an enhanced visitor experience. Registration is also accessible through the IMC website.
Testing and Reimbursement Scheme for Startups and MSEs
The DoT launched a reimbursement scheme to support startups and MSEs in the telecom sector, offering up to INR 50 lakhs for testing and certification costs. With a total fund allocation of Rs. 25 crore, the scheme aims to foster domestic manufacturing, attract investments, and enhance exports.
MOU for Cybersecurity Capacity Building
An MoU between IIT Jammu and NTIPRIT was signed to provide advanced cybersecurity training for selected officers, aiming to develop a strong set of cybersecurity professionals in India.
Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Chairman, DCC & Secretary (T), DoT, and Shri Abhijit Kishore, Chairman COAI, also addressed the gathering, highlighting India’s telecom achievements and the success of the 5G revolution.
