The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the ambitious PAN 2.0 Project of the Income Tax Department. This transformative e-Governance initiative, with an allocated budget of ₹1,435 crore, aims to modernize and enhance taxpayer registration services using cutting-edge technology.
The PAN 2.0 Project is a significant upgrade from the existing PAN/TAN 1.0 system, integrating core and non-core activities while consolidating PAN validation services. Designed to deliver a seamless and eco-friendly experience, the project promises substantial benefits, including:
- Ease of Access: Faster service delivery with improved quality for taxpayers.
- Data Consistency: Establishing PAN as a single source of truth across government systems.
- Cost Optimization: Reducing expenses through streamlined, eco-friendly processes.
- Enhanced Security: Upgrading infrastructure to ensure greater agility and protection.
Aligned with the Digital India mission, PAN 2.0 will enable the Permanent Account Number (PAN) to serve as a common identifier across specified government agencies’ digital systems, further advancing India’s digital transformation goals.
The project underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for efficient governance, ensuring a robust, user-centric approach to taxpayer services.
