The Delhi government is set to launch a free online coaching programme for Class XII students from government schools preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG). The initiative, aimed at enhancing students’ chances of securing admissions in medical colleges and central universities, was formalized with the signing of the MoU between the Education Department and Bharat Innovation Global (BIG) Private Limited on Thursday.
BIG is a joint venture involving the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) International, the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and ed-tech firm Physics Wallah Limited.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony at the Legislative Assembly, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the significance of the initiative in empowering students. ‘With this support, more students from Delhi government schools will have the opportunity to pursue their aspirations of becoming doctors and securing admission to top universities,’ she stated.
Education Minister Ashish Sood termed the initiative a ‘landmark’ step, underscoring its potential to assist over 1.63 lakh students in achieving academic success.
Under the programme, Physics Wallah, a Noida-based coaching institute, will conduct online classes from April 2 to May 5. The 30-day course will provide six hours of daily instruction in subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, General Aptitude, and English. Additionally, students will receive PDF notes for revision, access to regular tests, a doubt resolution portal, and a subject-wise study plan.
The initiative follows a similar coaching scheme previously implemented under the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana (JBMPVY), which offered free coaching to students from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Class (OBC), and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) backgrounds. However, that programme was discontinued in 2022 due to funding issues. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government later announced plans to revive it ahead of elections last year.
The new coaching initiative is expected to provide a significant boost to students from economically weaker backgrounds, ensuring they have access to quality education resources and guidance to compete at a national level.
