Google has announced the opening of its fourth and latest campus in India, ‘Ananta,’ situated in Mahadevapura, East Bengaluru. Spanning 1.6 million square feet and designed to accommodate over 5,000 employees, the new facility marks a significant milestone in the tech giant’s commitment to the Indian market.
The state-of-the-art campus will house teams from multiple Google divisions, including Android, Search, Pay, Cloud, Maps, Play, and Google DeepMind. With one of India’s largest installations of electro-chromic glass and a sculpted fluid façade, the Ananta campus embodies innovation in both technology and sustainability. It operates with 100% wastewater recycling and an extensive rainwater harvesting system.
Preeti Lobana, Vice President and Country Manager, Google India, emphasized the strategic importance of the campus, stating, ‘The new Ananta campus in Bengaluru marks a significant milestone in our journey, marking the technological paradigm shift underway with AI.’ She highlighted Google’s focus on AI adoption across critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and fintech, ensuring its integration into systemic areas of the economy.
Lobana further noted that Google aims to work closely with India’s startup and research ecosystem while fostering skill development to prepare Indian talent for the future of AI-driven transformation. She took over as Google India’s Country Manager in December 2024.
Over the past years, Google has expanded its product and engineering presence in India, building new solutions and enhancing existing services. In 2024, the company also transitioned several technical and engineering roles from the United States to India as part of a broader global reorganization. With over 10,000 employees, India represents one of Google’s largest workforces outside the U.S., with offices in Bengaluru, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune.
Anand Rangarajan, Vice President, Google DeepMind, and Sunil Rao, Vice President, Global Delivery, Google Cloud India, emphasized that Ananta is part of Google’s broader mission to develop technology ‘with and for India and the world.’
The IT & BT Department, Karnataka, extended its congratulations to Google on the launch of its Global Capability Center. In a social media post, the department wrote, ‘This landmark facility exemplifies Bengaluru’s position as India’s preferred destination for Global Capability Centers. We commend Google’s sustainable development approach, incorporating advanced environmental features and locally sourced materials. The establishment of this center aligns perfectly with our vision of strengthening Karnataka’s technology leadership.’
