The Government of Gujarat has announced the appointment of Pankaj Joshi (IAS: 1989: GJ) as the next Chief Secretary of the state. Joshi will assume office on January 31, 2025, succeeding Raj Kumar (IAS: 1987: GJ), who is set to retire on the same day.
Pankaj Joshi, who is currently serving as the Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister of Gujarat, has a distinguished career in the Indian Administrative Service. His tenure as Chief Secretary will extend until October 31, 2025.
Until now, the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office has been supported by two ACS officers: Pankaj Joshi and Manoj Kumar Das (IAS: 1990: GJ). Joshi’s appointment comes as part of a smooth transition plan ahead of Raj Kumar’s superannuation.
Raj Kumar, before serving as Gujarat’s Chief Secretary, held the prominent position of Secretary, Department of Defence, at the Centre. His leadership in Gujarat has been marked by significant administrative accomplishments, and he is set to conclude his service with a legacy of efficiency and governance.
