DEPwD Signs MoU with Sri Aurobindo Society to Strengthen Inclusive Education Under ‘Project Inclusion’

In a move aimed at advancing inclusive education for children with disabilities, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, has signed MoU with the Sri Aurobindo Society (SAS) in New Delhi.

The collaboration will be implemented under ‘Project Inclusion’, a capacity-building initiative designed to enhance the skills of educators, rehabilitation professionals, school counsellors, and general teachers across the country. This effort aligns with the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016, particularly Sections 16, 17, and 47, which mandate inclusive education for children with disabilities.

As part of the MoU, Sri Aurobindo Society will deploy its ‘Rupantar Programme’ to implement ‘Project Inclusion’ through a mobile application and a web-based platform. The project will offer training modules, issue e-certificates upon completion, and promote innovation and awareness in inclusive education practices and tools.

In addition to nationwide implementation, the project will also focus on reaching geographically challenging areas, including Leh, under the Department’s Leh Inclusion Initiative. The initiative will also involve research and development efforts to further enhance inclusive education strategies and outcomes in India.
