MSME Technology Centres start recovery from COVID slump

MSME Technology Centres under the MSME Ministry have begun to pull out of their COVID-induced fall as the total number of trainees trained across 18 centres in the financial year 2021-22 registered increased by 8 per cent. During the pandemic, the number had sharply dropped by 51 per cent from 2,73,437 trainees trained in  FY20.

Similarly, the aggregate revenue of all the MSME Technology Centres has witnessed a recovery of 11 per cent to Rs 216.66 crore in FY22 from Rs 195.19 crore in FY 21.

The 18 TCs are located across Kolkata, Ludhiana, Indore, Ahmedabad, Aurangabad (Maharashtra), Jamshedpur, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Jalandhar, Hyderabad, Ramnagar (Uttarakhand), Mumbai, Kannauj (Uttar Pradesh), Firozabad (Uttar Pradesh), Agra (two centres), Meerut, and Chennai.

MSMEs assisted through 18 TCs have also recovered by 13.3 per cent to 31,554 units in FY22 from 27,831 units in FY21. The data has revealed that the increase in trainees trained, revenues and units assisted in FY22 was still the second-lowest in seven years since FY16.
