Reimagining public spaces under Placemaking Marathon initiated by Smart Cities Mission

During the second edition of the Placemaking Marathon, 43 cities worked tirelessly for 75 hours to transform more than 85 public spaces. These projects focused on designing and renovating the public spaces and making them a better place for citizens.

The cities are taking a series of eco-friendly initiatives to transform the public spaces, a significant step toward creating a greener and cleaner environment for people to live in.

With a commitment to improving the quality of life through smart intervention, an underutilized vacant space measuring 496 sq. m in Greater Warangal was transformed into a safe and lively Micro Park. A dump yard site of 200 sq. m at MH Nagar slum in Greater Warangal was transformed into a park for children to play.

Pimpri-Chinchwad took a significant initiative to transform Sudarshan junction into 8 to 80 park within 75 hours.

City Sagar revamped two abandoned areas beside the street into a garden and park for citizens of all ages.

Bhubaneswar restored the water body and rejuvenated the temple premises of 4046 sq .m at Maa Mangla Pokhari.

A park in Krishna Nagar, Agartala was revamped to make it safe for families, and introduce a dedicated play area for toddlers.

Aligarh transformed Thandi Sadak into a food street and concrete benches were built for visitors

A park without any proper maintenance and street furniture was transformed into an elderly-friendly space near North Zonal hospital in Dharamshala.

Anganwadi located within the premises of a government school in Bengaluru was upgraded with a child-sized toilet and play intervention.

Similarly, many other cities have revamped the public spaces and given them a fresh new look for people to enjoy.
