Centre gives nod to Sputnik booster shot

The Centre has approved the Russian-made COVID vaccine Sputnik Light to be used as a booster dose. After the approval, nearly 650,000 people who took the first dose of Sputnik V will now be able to take the booster dose at private vaccination centres.

Dr Reddy’s Laboratories having the rights for marketing and distribution of the Sputnik vaccine in India has begun the discussions with the manufacturing partners and hospitals. The company has also urged the government to make the option available on the Cowin platform.

Dr Reddy’s Laboratories in a statement released said, “This week, component 1 of Sputnik V (or Sputnik Light) was approved for administration at private centres as the precaution dose for those who received Sputnik V as their primary vaccine. Having now received official confirmation of the approval, we are working with manufacturing partners in India.”
