Coal Ministry Hits Record 500 Million Tonne Coal Transportation in Current Fiscal’s First Half

For the fiscal year 2023-24, the Coal Ministry has established a goal to produce and deliver 1012 million tonnes (MT) of coal to consumers.

Exhibiting remarkable progress, the Ministry successfully dispatched 500 MT of coal as of October 17, 2023. Accomplishing this feat within the initial 200 days, including the challenging monsoon season, stands as a commendable achievement.

Typically, the rate of production and dispatch during the second half of the year surpasses that of the first half. Consequently, it is anticipated that the coal dispatch for this year will surpass the one billion tonne mark. Notably, in the previous fiscal year, the milestone of 500 MT coal dispatch was attained by November 9, 2022. Therefore, this year, the 500 MT dispatch milestone has been achieved 23 days earlier.

It is to be noted that out of 500 MT of coal dispatch, 416.57 MT dispatch is for power sector and 84.77MT is for non-regulatory sector.

The growth of coal transport to power sector year to year is 7.27 per cent and growth to non- regulated sector year to year is 38.02%.  Last year as on 31st  March, 2023, 893.19 million tonnes of coal were despatched.

Notably, both Coal India Ltd (CIL) and Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), along with Captive/Commercial mines, have collectively contributed to this significant milestone achieved by the Coal Ministry.
