Harish Dudani Appointed as Member of Central Electricity Regulatory Commission

In a significant appointment, Harish Dudani has been sworn in as a Member of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). The Oath of Office and Secrecy was administered by the Hon’ble Minister for Power in a ceremony held on Tuesday.

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, established under the Electricity Regulatory Commissions Act of 1998 and currently functioning under the Electricity Act of 2003, plays a crucial role in regulating the electricity sector in India. The Commission comprises a Chairperson, three Members, and the Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority as an ex-officio Member.

CERC’s major functions include regulating tariffs of Central Government-owned generating companies and other generating companies operating across multiple states. It is also responsible for determining tariffs for inter-state transmission of electricity, issuing licenses for inter-state transmission and trading, and adjudicating disputes. The Commission’s mandate is to promote competition, efficiency, and investment in the electricity industry.

Prior to this appointment, he served as the Principal Judge of the Family Court in the High Court of Delhi. His previous positions include District Judge (Commercial Court), Additional Sessions Judge, and Special Judge (Prevention of Corruption Act) for the CBI in the High Court of Delhi.
