Amit Singh Gets 2-Year Extension as CM Yogi’s Secretary, to Continue Till 2027

Amit Singh, a 2000-batch IRSS officer, has secured yet another extension as Secretary to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. His deputation, which began in 2017, has now been extended till March 31, 2027, marking a decade-long innings at the heart of the CM’s inner circle.

This is Singh’s second extension, following the conclusion of his original five-year deputation in 2021. While bureaucratic reshuffles are common, such prolonged stints—especially in politically sensitive posts—are relatively rare. Observers say this reflects not just administrative continuity, but also the deep trust and political comfort CM Yogi places in Singh.

Singh’s rise from a short tenure as Regional Passport Officer in Lucknow to becoming the nerve centre of the CM’s office has been swift. Notably, his appointment as Special Secretary coincided almost precisely with Yogi Adityanath’s ascent to the Chief Minister’s chair in 2017—raising questions about how quickly bureaucratic roles adapt to new political regimes.

Before his Lucknow posting, Singh served as Chief Public Relations Officer of the North-Eastern Railway in Gorakhpur—a city that has long been Yogi’s political bastion. It was here that Singh and the then-MP Yogi reportedly formed a bond, which has since translated into a sustained working relationship within the state’s highest administrative office.
