The Haryana government has officially appointed senior IAS officer Anurag Rastogi as the state’s new Chief Secretary. A 1990-batch IAS officer, Rastogi takes over the top bureaucratic post following the elevation of outgoing Chief Secretary Vivek Joshi (1989 batch) to the position of Election Commissioner.
Before his appointment, Rastogi served as the Additional Chief Secretary and Financial Commissioner in the Revenue & Disaster Management & Consolidation Department. He also held the role of Additional Chief Secretary for the Finance and Planning Department, where he played a key role in managing the state’s financial affairs. In his new capacity, he will continue to oversee the finance and planning portfolios.
A native of Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, Rastogi began his administrative career on August 17, 1992, as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Narnaul. Over the years, he has held several significant positions, including Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Panipat and Hisar, as well as Director and Principal Secretary in various government departments. In 2021, he was promoted to the rank of Additional Chief Secretary.
His appointment comes merely three months after Vivek Joshi assumed office as Haryana’s Chief Secretary on November 1, 2024, following the retirement of TVSN Prasad. Joshi, who was repatriated to Haryana by the central government, previously held the position of Secretary in the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) before being appointed as an Election Commissioner.
