Ahead of the two-day Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit, the Assam Cabinet has approved investment proposals worth Rs 1.22 lakh crore, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference, Sarma stated that investment commitments are expected to increase further. Additionally, MoUs worth Rs 15,000 crore will be signed at the district level, ensuring swift on-ground implementation.
‘We are committed to facilitating investment in key sectors, excluding piggery. MoUs will be signed in handloom, textiles, power, industries, and mines & minerals,’ the Chief Minister said. He emphasized that all agreements would undergo rigorous scrutiny before receiving final approval from the Council of Ministers.
‘We are not entertaining superficial proposals as we do not wish to create unwarranted euphoria among the people,’ Sarma asserted.
The Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, scheduled for February 25-26 in Guwahati, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event will witness participation from several central ministers, ambassadors, international business delegations, and top Indian industrialists.
The summit aims to position Assam as a premier investment destination by showcasing its business potential, policy initiatives, and infrastructure development. The state government is confident that the new investments will significantly contribute to Assam’s economic growth and employment generation.
