New Delhi: The Centre has recently announced the introduction of a new category of visa known as the Ayush (AY) visa. This visa category is specifically designed for foreign nationals who are seeking treatment under Ayush system or Indian systems of medicine. The purpose of introducing the Ayush Visa is to cater to the increasing demand for therapeutic care, wellness, and Yoga among foreigners visiting India. This special visa scheme aims to provide a professional and engaging experience for individuals seeking holistic treatment options in India.
A new section called Chapter 11A – Ayush Visa has been added to the Visa Manual, 2019, succeeding Chapter 11 – Medical Visa. This new chapter focuses on the treatment procedures related to the Indian systems of medicine. Consequently, the other chapters in the Visa Manual have been appropriately revised to reflect these amendments.
Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, said, ‘The creation of a new category of Ayush (AY) visa for foreign nationals seeking treatment under Ayush systems/Indian systems of medicine is a significant step. It will boost Medical Value Travel in India. This initiative will strengthen our endeavor to accomplish our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision for making Indian traditional medicine a global phenomenon. I also want to compliment Shri Amit Shah, Union Home Minister, GoI for his efforts in creating a special Ayush Visa category.’
The Ayush Visa category is a crucial component of the Heal in India initiative, an ambitious plan by the government of India to position the country as a preferred destination for medical value travel. Collaborating closely, the Ministry of Ayush and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare are actively working towards the development of a comprehensive Heal in India portal. This initiative aims to showcase India as a global hub for medical tourism, providing individuals with easy access to a wide range of healthcare services.
