Visakhapatnam: The Defence Correspondents Course (DCC), a three-week program organized by the Ministry of Defence for journalists from National and Regional Media organizations, commenced at the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) in Visakhapatnam on August 21 (Monday).
The purpose of the DCC is to foster closer collaboration between media and the military while ensuring that journalists at all levels have a deeper understanding of the armed forces and the maritime domain when reporting on related stories. Throughout the one-week naval attachment, participants will have the opportunity to engage with subject matter experts from the Navy and the Coast Guard, gaining valuable insights and knowledge.
The journalists will be introduced to multiple aspects of the Navy, encompassing naval operations, naval diplomacy, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, as well as the organizational structure of the Navy and Coast Guard. Within the framework of the course, the participants had the opportunity to visit an Indian naval ship and submarine on Monday and received comprehensive briefings on various aspects of life aboard the vessels.
The participants will also be taken on a scheduled tour of the Naval Dockyard, Naval Air Station, and Coast Guard ships at Visakhapatnam this week. The naval leg of the course will include a sea sortie aboard a front-line warship of the Indian Navy, which will provide the journalists with an insight into naval operations at sea.
Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, the Chief of Staff of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), delivered an engaging and informative inaugural address at the Maritime Warfare Center. Additionally, A. Bharat Bhushan Babu, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Additional Director General of Media & Communication provided valuable insights into the field of Defence Journalism during the course.
