New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) will be conducting brainstorming sessions called ‘Chintan Shivir’ in New Delhi on June 19 and 20, 2023. The objective of these sessions is to address various issues and challenges that the departments of the Ministry face and to generate new ideas for better governance and functioning.
The Department of Defence (DoD), Department of Defence Production (DDP), Department of Military Affairs (DMA), and Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW) have identified several themes. Eminent subject matter experts will share their views on these themes with the officers of the Ministry.
The Department of Defence (DoD) will engage in discussions pertaining to various topics, which include a holistic strategy for safeguarding the nation, issues related to cybersecurity, the formulation of national information security policies and guidelines, performance audits, Sainik School education system, and strengthening the capacity for defence acquisitions.
The Department of Defence Production (DDP) will engage in conversations regarding the following topics- improving production and defence exports, advancing self-reliance through Aatmanirbharta: Road ahead for indigenisation, cultivating an industrial ecosystem and skilled workforce, enhancing Level Playing Field, and implementing quality reforms.
The DMA has selected topics that address important concerns related to the integration and optimization of human resources, training, and operational procedures. These issues are crucial for achieving greater synergy and modernization, as well as increasing the capability of the Armed Forces in the strategic domain. Additionally, the discussions will include measures to identify and eliminate colonial practices and outdated laws, while incorporating the country’s own values and practices into the functioning of the Armed Forces.
The Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW) has identified several themes to improve the well-being of veterans. These include utilizing SPARSH to enhance pension services and provide other welfare measures, promoting employability and entrepreneurship to facilitate the resettlement of veterans, and enhancing health services for veterans.
The Chintan Shivir will culminate with an open forum session to gather ideas and recommendations for improving the operational effectiveness of different departments. The event is aligned with the Government’s mandate to conduct a real-time audit of the accomplished objectives thus far and establish a feasible roadmap toward achieving the intended targets within reasonable timeframes.
