New Delhi: In a momentous initiative aimed at fostering digital inclusion and driving socio-economic progress in rural India, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has unveiled a program to acknowledge Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for their remarkable contributions in expanding Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband connections in rural areas.
Key Highlights of the Scheme
- Under this initiative, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has made the decision to acknowledge and commend nine Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
- These distinguished ISPs are categorized into three groups: A, B, and C, with each category consisting of three providers.
- The recipients of this recognition are those who have demonstrated exceptional performance by contributing the highest number of rural Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) connections over the course of one year.
- The certificate and ISP name will be displayed on the DOT website as part of the recognition. This recognition will be given annually for the net additions between April and March.
- The first recognition will cover the period from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024.
The minimum net addition criteria for each category are as follows:
Category A: ISPs in this category should achieve a minimum of 50,000 net additions in rural FTTH connections.
Category B: ISPs in this category are required to achieve a minimum of 10,000 net additions in rural FTTH connections.
Category C: ISPs in this category must achieve a minimum of 2,000 net additions in rural FTTH connections.
This initiative reflects the Government of India’s commitment to enhancing digital access and connectivity in rural areas, ultimately driving socio-economic development and inclusive growth across the nation.
