In move to advance India’s telecom capabilities, Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Chairman of the Digital Communications Commission and Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications, inaugurated the ‘Bharat 5G Portal – an Integrated Portal’ on the sidelines of the ‘Bharat Telecom 2024 – An Exclusive International Business Expo.’
As part of its forward-looking initiatives, the Department of Telecommunications has issued a call for research and development proposals on 6G ecosystem development through the newly launched integrated portal. This move signals India’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements in the telecommunications sector.
In addition to the Bharat 5G Portal, the Secretary launched the Future Tech-Experts registration portal in collaboration with PANIIT USA. This initiative is poised to guide and support the Indian telecom ecosystem, showcasing a proactive approach to fostering technological growth.
A significant highlight of the event was the special meeting session titled ‘Bridging Dreams and Funding: Linking Venture Capital/Investors to the Future of Startups.’ The session, inaugurated by Secretary (T), featured presentations by 26 startups/MSMEs on innovative telecom products seeking funding. More than 10 venture capitalists and investors actively participated in the meet, engaging in discussions on potential collaborations and contributions to the growth and scalability of the presented products.
Addressing the audience after the Bharat 5G Portal launch, Dr. Neeraj Mittal emphasized India’s rapid progress in 5G rollout, positioning the country as one of the fastest in the world. He highlighted the unexpected development of indigenous 4G/5G technologies, making India the second-largest telecom network globally.
Dr. Mittal underscored India’s status as a trusted global partner in technological innovation and collaboration. Referring to Prime Minister’s vision of India being the third-largest tech startup ecosystem globally, he stressed the need to create new business opportunities for Indian manufacturers by encouraging the participation of more startups.
The Bharat 5G Portal, an integrated platform, is designed to serve the interests of startups, industry, and academia in quantum, 6G, IPR, and 5G domains. It consolidates information related to academic research and development, industry standards, OEMs, startups/MSMEs, and subject matter experts. The portal aims to propel India’s 5G capabilities, foster innovation, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing within the telecom sector, aligning with the broader goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
