First set of India’s first smart cities declared

Bhopal, Surat, Udaipur, Bhubaneswar, Varanasi, Ahmedabad, and Indore are set to be declared as the country’s ‘first set of smart cities’. Out of 100 cities selected for Smart Cities Mission, these 7 cities have taken a lead by accomplishing most of the projects. Bhopal has completed 92 percent, Surat 82.44 percent, Udaipur 78%, Bhubaneshwar 76 percent, while Indore, Ahmedabad, and Varanasi have completed 70 percent of the projects.

Seven years after the launch of the National Smart Cities Mission, the seven cities from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh will become the smart cities by the end of 2022. These cities have initiated the projects and smarten-up towns to make the spaces citizen-friendly and sustainable.

National Smart Cities Mission is an urban renewal and retrofitting program by the Government of India with the mission to develop smart cities across the country.
