The ongoing inter-ministerial consultation to change the curriculum of schools in the country is emphasizing on the inclusion of various emerging subjects such as the devastating consequences of zoonotic diseases, Vedic mathematics, coding, and Swachh Bharat in the curriculum.
The Ministry of Education had launched the inter-ministerial session earlier this month for changes in the education curriculum. The Environment Ministry, Department of Science and Technology (DST), and the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) have given their suggestions regarding changes in the courses
According to the proposal given by the MoHUA, students should be motivated and inspired to be the messengers and facilitators of clean behaviour. Also, cleanliness should be incorporated into the school curriculum.
The Ministry of Environment said, “The environmental education should be given to the students from the pre-school level. The curriculum must lay emphasis on practical concepts. Important topics such as managing waste, single-use plastics, conservation of forests and wetlands, and the catastrophic consequences of zoonotic diseases and their origins due to human misadventures with wild animals should be included in the curriculum.
The team of experts from the National Curriculum Framework will analyze all the suggestions received from the ministries and accordingly make changes in the NCERT books.
