In a significant move to bolster vocational education and training in India, the Government of India and the Republic of Korea signed an Exchange of Notes for the Technical Cooperation Project titled ‘Strengthening Vocational Education and Training in Mechatronics in India’. The signing ceremony was held in New Delhi and marks the first project implemented with assistance from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in India.
The Exchange of Notes was signed by Manisha Sinha, Additional Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, on behalf of the Government of India, and H.E. Lee Seong-ho, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India, on behalf of the Republic of Korea.
This two-year project will be executed in collaboration with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) at the Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Bhopal. It aims to establish a robust framework for vocational education in mechatronics by developing curriculum, textbooks, teacher manuals, and providing necessary equipment. The initiative will also focus on capacity building for teachers and fostering industry collaboration with RIE, Bhopal, to pilot education in mechatronics.
The project is a milestone in India’s partnership with the Republic of Korea, which was designated as India’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) partner in 2016. The bilateral relationship between the two nations was elevated to a Special Strategic Partnership in 2015, reflecting shared goals and mutual trust.
The signing of the Exchange of Notes for the NCERT project is expected to further strengthen the Special Strategic Partnership between the two countries and contribute to the advancement of technical education in India, paving the way for a skilled workforce in the field of mechatronics.
