Government Partners with Academic Institutions to Foster Data Innovation

In a strategic move to enhance the innovation ecosystem in official statistics, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is collaborating with leading academic institutions under the Data Innovation Lab component of its Capacity Development Scheme. This initiative aims to establish a strong linkage between academia and practitioners, leveraging academic expertise to address real-world challenges in official statistics.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Statistics and Programme Implementation, Planning, and Culture, Rao Inderjit Singh, informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply today that MoUs have been signed with several premier institutions. These include the Indian IIM Nagpur, IIT Madras, IIIT Vadodara, IIT Gandhinagar, Maharaja Agrasen University, and IIT Delhi.

The minister highlighted that the process of engaging with academic institutions is ongoing, with MoUs being signed as and when partnerships are finalized. This initiative is expected to drive innovation and enhance the quality of official statistical data by incorporating advanced research methodologies and analytical techniques developed by academia
