Heeralal Samariya sworn in as Chief Information Commissioner

Information Commissioner Heeralal Samariya was sworn in as the chief of the Central Information Commission (CIC), on Monday.

Officials confirmed that President Murmu administered the oath-taking ceremony for Samairya at a gathering held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The vacancy at the helm of the transparency panel arose following the conclusion of Y K Sinha’s tenure on October 3. Following Samariya’s appointment as the Chief Information Commissioner, there remains a vacancy of eight positions for Information Commissioners.

Currently, the Commission comprises two Information Commissioners. The structure of the Commission allows for a maximum of ten Information Commissioners, including the Chief Information Commissioner.
