Information Commissioner Heeralal Samariya was sworn in as the chief of the Central Information Commission (CIC), on Monday.
Officials confirmed that President Murmu administered the oath-taking ceremony for Samairya at a gathering held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The vacancy at the helm of the transparency panel arose following the conclusion of Y K Sinha’s tenure on October 3. Following Samariya’s appointment as the Chief Information Commissioner, there remains a vacancy of eight positions for Information Commissioners.
Currently, the Commission comprises two Information Commissioners. The structure of the Commission allows for a maximum of ten Information Commissioners, including the Chief Information Commissioner.
