IAS Chockalingam Appointed as Maharashtra’s New Chief Electoral Officer

In anticipation of the forthcoming General Assembly Elections in 2024, Maharashtra’s state government has announced the appointment of seasoned IAS officer S Chockalingam from the 1996 batch as the new Chief Electoral Officer for the state. Chockalingam succeeds IAS officer S M Deshpande in this crucial role.

With his extensive experience, Chockalingam is set to take charge of all election-related activities pertaining to both the Assembly and Parliament elections in Maharashtra. His mandate includes ensuring the seamless conduct of operations, a task that falls under the overarching supervision of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Before assuming this pivotal position, Chockalingam served as the Director General (DG) of the prestigious Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration based in Pune.
