IAS Tuhin Kanta Pandey, a 1987-batch officer of the Odisha cadre, has been appointed as the new finance secretary, according to an official order issued on Saturday. Pandey, who currently serves as the secretary of the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), will take on this crucial role following the approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
In addition to his duties at DIPAM, Pandey has been holding the additional charge as Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), succeeding Ali Raza Rizvi. His appointment as finance secretary fills the vacancy left after the promotion of T.V. Somanathan to Cabinet secretary last month.
As per established convention, the senior-most secretary in the Union finance ministry is designated as the finance secretary, making Pandey’s appointment a significant step in ensuring continuity and leadership in India’s financial administration.
