Amit Sharma, Secretary to Government, Information & Communications Technology and Cooperation, Mizoram today chaired a strategic meeting regarding availability of Broadband Internet Connectivity at various points of Indo-Myanmar Border wherein Mizoram is sharing a large portion of its boundary with Myanmar in which all ISPs, DoT, Assam Rifles, Home and ICT department officers’ participated.
At the outset, the Chair of the meeting Secretary ICT Amit Sharma welcomed all the participants and divulged that this meeting is in continuation to the last meeting held under the Chairpersonship of Chief Secretary Mizoram Khilli Ram Meena wherein explicit directions were given to him for meeting all the stakeholders and assessing the current status of Internet Availability at various points of the Indo-Myanmar Border so that Free Movement Regime (FMR) could be better regulated here on a real-time basis.
Amit emphatically told all the participants that there is nothing above the national interest and all the Internet Service Providers should rise above commercial interests and try best possible to provision smooth bandwidth at Indo-Myanmar Entry & Exit Points so as to make systems robust and connected with the use of latest Information Technology tools.
Secretary ICT Mizoram, Amit Sharma and his team took inputs from all service providers such as BSNL, Airtel and Reliance Jio in this Meeting about the current status of Internet Connectivity and mobile towers at the eighteen points of Indo-Myanmar Border located in Champhai, Lawngtlai, Saitual, Serchip and Siaha districts of Mizoram and they were given explicit directions by Amit to share exact status on same within next couple of days so that a comprehensive plan on same could be prepared for onward submission to the Higher Authorities.
It was also disclosed to the chair Amit Sharma in the meeting by Assam Rifles team that stable Internet Connectivity with good bandwidth on Indo-Myanmar Border Entry and Exit points could really help them in real-time registration and better regulation of public movement across the Indo-Myanmar Border which has to be stored on National Database through the specialised software created by NIC for it.
Those who participated in this all-important meeting included Joint Secretary Home, Joint Secretary ICT, PiO Directorate of ICT, DDG Department of Telecommunications, PGM BSNL, ZSM Bharti Airtel, SCO, Reliance Jio and others who resolved to remain connected through a WhatsApp Group in future to follow this issue actively for resolution in a time-bound manner.
