The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) reports that the NPTEL-GATE portal, available at gate.nptel.ac.in, has garnered more than 50,700 registrations, with a noticeable surge in student engagement.
Students were able to access previous years’ questions (PYQs) from 2007 to 2022, encompassing over 16 years of GATE exam materials. Throughout the period from August 2022 to February 2023, they successfully undertook 115 mock tests spanning six critical subjects, including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication, Physics, and Chemistry.
In the ongoing semester that commenced on October 15, the platform has administered 19 mock tests covering a comprehensive range of seven subjects, which now includes Biotechnology in addition to the six earlier ones. Additionally, the portal has been hosting live sessions, attracting 3,975 students for 521 phase one sessions and 3,321 students for 367 phase two sessions. Presently, phase three live sessions are in progress.
The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is a collaborative effort among multiple IITs, including IIT Madras and IISc Bengaluru, aimed at enhancing technology-based learning initiatives.
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a nationwide examination that evaluates candidates’ comprehensive understanding of diverse undergraduate-level subjects in Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, and Humanities. In 2023, the GATE exam witnessed an approximate registration of 700,000 students, out of which nearly 100,000 students successfully qualified.
