India Hosts International Conference on Green Hydrogen in Delhi

New Delhi: The International Conference on Green Hydrogen is being organized in New Delhi from today and will continue till 7th July 2023. The conference aims to bring together global leaders from scientific, policy, academic, and industrial sectors to discuss emerging technologies and advancements in the green hydrogen value chain.

The event is hosted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in collaboration with other government bodies and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The focus will be on developing an ecosystem for green hydrogen and meeting decarbonization goals.

‘India’s economy is growing rapidly, leading to an increase in demand for energy & resources. Energy use has doubled in the last 20 years and is likely to grow by at least 25% by 2030,’ said Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, Secretary, MNRE India, while giving a welcome address at the event. He also mentioned major actions launched in the last few months in Green Hydrogen Mission such as Government Framework, Sight Programme, Standards & Regulations, Definition of Green Hydrogen, Policy actions on MNRE, MoP and State Govt. and drafting the R&D Roadmap.

In the realm of green hydrogen, numerous efforts are being made to penetrate commercial industries with the goal of reducing the dependence on petrol and increasing the utilization of renewable energies, according to Rameswar Teli, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Labour and Employment.

Minister of Power and MNRE Raj K Singh also highlighted investment opportunities in the development of green hydrogen ecosystem, including the production of green hydrogen & its derivatives, storage, transportation & various applications, in India.

The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched on 4th January 2023, places significant emphasis on R&D in green hydrogen to establish India as a global hub of green hydrogen production, utilization, and export.

The mission encourages private investment, focuses on policy and regulatory frameworks, and aims to reduce costs while fostering sustainable energy solutions for job creation and economic growth in the clean energy sector of the country.
