Ladakh Undergoing Rapid and Multifaceted Development: President Droupadi Murmu

On October 31, 2023, President Smt. Droupadi Murmu attended the Foundation Day festivities of UT Ladakh in Leh. During the event, the President expressed her delight at marking her inaugural visit to Ladakh as the President of India on its Foundation Day.

Droupadi Murmu -The President acknowledged Ladakh’s rapid and multifaceted development, commending the region’s inhabitants for advancing along the path of progress. She praised the ongoing efforts of the Autonomous Hill Development Councils of Leh and Kargil, emphasizing their contributions to reinforcing grassroots democracy and implementing significant measures for Ladakh’s development, particularly concerning youth employment.

President’s Key Points on Ladakh’s Development:

Central Government has increased budget provisions for Ladakh fivefold in the last four years, displaying a strong commitment to the region’s progress.

Ladakh’s development must be balanced with the preservation of its natural beauty and the preservation of its unique cultural identity.

Emphasis is being placed on infrastructure development to enhance Ladakh’s connectivity, with several new policies being implemented.

The focus on sustainable and responsible tourism is paramount, ensuring economic progress while maintaining the region’s cleanliness.

Steps are being taken to develop Ladakh as a Carbon Neutral Region, including the initiation of Green Energy projects by Public Sector Undertakings.

Notably, NTPC is establishing the world’s first High Altitude Green Hydrogen Fueling Station in Leh, while the Central Government has recently sanctioned the Green Energy Corridor Project in Ladakh.

Recently, the Central Government has approved the Green Energy Corridor Project in Ladakh. Under this project, Renewable Energy Projects with a capacity of 13000 MW will be connected to the POWER GRID through Inter-State Transmission System.

The President expressed her hope that as India progresses towards becoming a developed nation by 2047, Ladakh continues to maintain its leading position in the country concerning Economic, Environmental, and Human Development.
