National Critical Minerals Mission to Strengthen Domestic Value Chains and Support India’s Net Zero Goal: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the significance of the National Critical Minerals Mission (NCMM) in reducing India’s import dependence, strengthening domestic value chains, and contributing to the country’s ‘Net Zero by 2070’ objective.

In response to an article authored by Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on the NCMM, the Prime Minister highlighted the mission’s role in securing India’s critical mineral supply chain. Shri Modi took to social media, stating, “Union Minister Shri @kishanreddybjp elaborates on how the National Critical Minerals Mission aims to reduce import dependence, strengthen domestic value chains and support India’s ‘Net Zero by 2070’ goal.”

The National Critical Minerals Mission is a strategic initiative designed to ensure India’s self-sufficiency in essential minerals required for high-tech industries, renewable energy, and defense manufacturing. As global demand for critical minerals surges, India seeks to bolster domestic mining capabilities, foster technological advancements, and enhance sustainability in resource utilization.

Experts believe that the mission will play a crucial role in accelerating the growth of sectors such as electric vehicles, battery storage, and green energy, all of which are vital to achieving India’s climate commitments. The initiative is also expected to encourage investment in exploration and processing technologies, thereby reducing reliance on foreign supply chains.

With a focus on resource security, the NCMM aligns with the government’s broader vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and sustainable economic growth. The mission underscores India’s proactive approach in addressing future energy and industrial demands while minimizing environmental impact.

The government is expected to outline further details of the mission, including policy frameworks and industry collaborations, in the coming months. Stakeholders across various sectors have welcomed the initiative, acknowledging its potential to position India as a global leader in critical mineral processing and green technology innovation.
