The National e-Governance Division (NeGD), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has launched a two-day training programme on ‘Artificial Intelligence in Governance’ at the Department of Management Studies (DMS), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. Held from June 26 to 27, 2025, the initiative aims to strengthen the capabilities of government officials in harnessing artificial intelligence for effective public governance.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Rajnish Kumar, Chief Operating Officer and Director, NeGD; Sunil Sharma, Director, NeGD; and Prof. Surya Prakash Singh, Head of the Department, DMS, IIT Delhi. A total of 59 officials from various Central Ministries, State Departments, and government bodies are attending the workshop.
Organised under the Capacity Building Scheme (CB Phase III) of the Digital India Programme, the training focuses on equipping officers with the knowledge and tools to integrate AI into governance processes. Key focus areas include AI policy frameworks, ethical and legal dimensions of AI, digital transformation strategies, and real-world use cases in the public sector.
Interactive sessions and group exercises are also part of the training, designed to help participants contextualize AI applications within their departmental needs and service mandates.
The initiative is aligned with CB Phase III’s core objective of building both institutional and individual digital capabilities within the government ecosystem. The Capacity Building team at NeGD has played a central role in designing and coordinating the programme in partnership with IIT Delhi, ensuring a blend of academic rigor and practical applicability.
As India accelerates its digital governance journey, such capacity-building efforts are seen as critical to enabling government officers to adopt and manage emerging technologies like AI with strategic foresight and accountability.
