NLC India Limited (NLCIL) and the Government of Rajasthan have signed MoU for the formation of a joint venture. The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, marks a historic step towards setting up a 125 MW Lignite Based Power Plant and a mammoth 1000 MW Solar Power Plant.
The MoU, ceremoniously exchanged between NLC India Limited and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL), involves a substantial investment exceeding Rs 7000 Crores. This partnership solidifies NLCIL’s commitment to renewable energy initiatives and aligns with the national target of achieving ambitious renewable energy goals.
Among the flagship projects outlined in the MoU is the establishment of a 125 MW Lignite Pit-head Thermal Power Plant in Bikaner district, promising significant contributions to the region’s energy needs. Additionally, a massive 1000 MW Solar Power Plant is set to be developed, emphasizing the push towards sustainable energy solutions.
Notably, a Letter of Intent (LoI) has already been issued for an 810 MW solar power plant, further underscoring NLC India’s corporate plan to become a power major with a capacity of 17 GW, including more than 6 GW from renewable sources by 2030.
During the ceremony, additional MoUs were signed with prominent entities including Coal India Ltd, NTPC, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), and Rural Electrification Corporation (REC). These agreements aim to add generation capacity, enhance transmission systems, and provide necessary financing for the ambitious projects.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi commended the proactive vision of the Prime Minister and the steadfast commitment of Rajasthan’s Chief Minister in expediting these transformative projects. Amrit Lal Meena, Coal Secretary, Government of India, expressed confidence in the prowess of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the Coal Ministry. He asserted that with the support provided by the Rajasthan Government in terms of infrastructure and land, the signed projects will play a pivotal role in bolstering the nation’s energy security.
