Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a slew of infrastructure and energy projects worth over ₹53,400 crore in Bhuj on Monday, reinforcing Gujarat’s position at the forefront of India’s green energy and economic transformation.
Addressing a large gathering, the Prime Minister emphasized the strategic significance of the region in India’s green and blue economy aspirations. “Kutch is emerging as the world’s largest hub for green energy,” Shri Modi declared, spotlighting the Khavda Renewable Energy Park as a game-changer in the global energy landscape.
The bouquet of projects spans across sectors — including large-scale transmission infrastructure to evacuate renewable energy from Khavda, an ultra super critical thermal power plant unit at Tapi, and port development at Kandla. In addition, several state-level projects in road infrastructure, solar energy, and water supply were flagged off, reflecting a holistic development vision for the region.
Highlighting the importance of green hydrogen, the Prime Minister described it as the “fuel of the future”, predicting a transformative shift in the way India powers its vehicles and cities. “Cars, buses, and even streetlights will soon run on green hydrogen,” he said, adding that the foundation stone has been laid for a new green hydrogen plant in Kutch, which will deploy technology entirely developed within India.
Kandla port, he noted, is one of the three designated green hydrogen hubs in the country, aligning with India’s goal to become a major global player in the clean energy market.
“Kutch is not just witnessing development—it is driving the future of India’s energy,” Modi said, referring to the massive solar project underway in the region. With the development of the Khavda complex, which will house one of the world’s largest solar power installations, Kutch is now firmly placed on the global renewable energy map, he added.
The Prime Minister also congratulated the people of Kutch for their role in supporting these transformative developments, which are expected to boost employment, infrastructure, and investment in the region.
The announcement underscores the government’s focus on sustainable, high-impact development and cements Gujarat’s role as a pioneer in India’s clean energy revolution.
