Secretary of Higher Education Sanjay Murthy, along with Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), T. G. Sitharam, launched the portal for nominations for the National Awards to Teachers (Higher Education) 2024. The Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education has also released comprehensive guidelines for the submission of nominations.
The prestigious awards aim to celebrate the outstanding contributions of exemplary teachers and faculty members across both technical and non-technical higher education institutions, including teachers from polytechnic institutions. This initiative seeks to honor those educators who have significantly enhanced the quality of higher education through their dedication, innovative teaching practices, and impactful community engagement.
Award Categories and Disciplines
The awards will be categorized into three broad disciplines:
- Engineering & Technology, Architecture.
- Pure Sciences including Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy.
- Arts and Social Sciences, Humanities, Languages, Legal Studies, Commerce, and Management.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the award, nominees must meet the following criteria:
- Be a regular faculty member.
- Have at least five years of full-time teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
- Be under 55 years of age as of the last date of receiving applications (June 20, 2024).
- Vice-Chancellors, Directors, and Principals (regular or officiating) are not eligible. However, those who have previously held such positions and are below 55 years of age and still in active service are eligible.
Nomination Process
Nominations can be submitted through the following methods:
- Self-nomination.
- Nomination by a former or current Vice-Chancellor, Director, Principal, faculty member, or colleague from the same university, institute, college, or polytechnic where the nominee is employed.
- Individuals previously nominated are eligible for re-nomination.
Important Dates
The deadline for submitting nominations is June 20, 2024. The selected awardees will be honored on September 5, 2024, coinciding with Teachers’ Day, which commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a distinguished teacher and former President of India.
The National Awards to Teachers in Higher Education Institutions 2024 aim to recognize and honor the unique achievements of faculty members in areas such as teaching-learning, community outreach, institutional service, research, and innovative contributions to the field of higher education.
