In a thought-provoking ceremony held in New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu conferred the prestigious Lakshmipat Singhania – IIM Lucknow National Leadership Awards, addressing a distinguished gathering where she underscored the imperative need to intertwine artificial intelligence (AI) with management education. President Murmu emphasized that this fusion is crucial for comprehensive development and highlighted the pivotal role of entrepreneurship in Indian culture.
Addressing the audience, President Murmu expressed concern about the adverse effects of relentless pursuit of production and productivity on humanity, leading to climate change and ecological disruptions. Drawing attention to the values ingrained in Indian culture, she remarked that profit maximization, while aligning with Western principles, has not been the focal point of Indian values.
In contrast, President Murmu applauded the growing prominence of entrepreneurship in Indian society, noting a cultural shift towards self-employment among the youth. Recognizing India’s status as the third-largest startup ecosystem globally and a hub for unicorn companies, she commended the management skills, business acumen, and technical expertise exhibited by the country’s youth, particularly in leading tech enterprises worldwide.
Advocating for a transformation in the curriculum of educational institutions, President Murmu called for more inclusive and effective national development. She urged collaboration between managers, educators, and organizational leaders, proposing alignment of Indian management studies with local companies, consumers, and society. The President recommended a shift in focus from international business case studies to those centered on Indian and multinational companies operating within India.
Additionally, she stressed the importance of directing research efforts towards Indian-based journals, particularly those in the open-access domain, to make knowledge accessible to students and researchers across diverse demographics.
President Murmu addressed concerns about job displacement due to AI, advocating for the integration of all dimensions of AI into management education. She asserted that individuals well-versed in AI need not fear job loss, emphasizing the role of institutions like IIM Lucknow in shaping curricula aimed at propelling India towards becoming a developed nation in the envisioned ‘Amrit Kaal.’ President Murmu’s impassioned call for a paradigm shift in management education aims to equip India’s future leaders with the necessary skills, mindset, and adaptability to navigate the complexities of the evolving global landscape, fostering holistic growth and sustainable development.
