Prime Minister Highlights ONDC’s Role in Empowering Small Businesses and Revolutionising E-Commerce

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today lauded the contribution of the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) in empowering small businesses and transforming the e-commerce landscape in India.

Responding to a post by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister emphasized ONDC’s pivotal role in driving growth and prosperity.

‘ONDC has contributed to empowering small businesses and revolutionising e-commerce, thus playing a vital role in furthering growth and prosperity, PM wrote.

The Open Network for Digital Commerce, an initiative by the Government of India, aims to democratize e-commerce by providing a level playing field for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and local retailers. It integrates buyers, sellers, logistics, and payment systems into a unified network, fostering inclusivity and reducing the dominance of large corporations.

Since its launch, ONDC has garnered widespread support from businesses across India, enabling even the smallest entrepreneurs to leverage digital technology to expand their reach and compete in the digital marketplace. By addressing issues like high commission fees and limited access to technology, ONDC has emerged as a game-changer for India’s e-commerce ecosystem.

Piyush Goyal, in his earlier post, highlighted ONDC’s achievements and its impact on the nation’s economy, stating, ONDC is bringing about a paradigm shift in e-commerce, empowering small businesses, and ensuring fair opportunities for all.

The initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, aimed at fostering local entrepreneurship and boosting economic growth.
