Mumbai: Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das has been ranked as the top central banker globally by the US-based Global Finance magazine. According to the Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2023, Das has been given an ‘A+’ rating, placing him at the top of a list consisting of three central bank governors who have also received the same rating.
Grades are assigned on a scale ranging from A to F to assess the effectiveness of inflation control, achievement of economic growth goals, maintenance of currency stability, and management of interest rates, as stated by Global Finance magazine.
An ‘A’ grade indicates outstanding performance, while an ‘F’ grade signifies complete failure. Following this, Thomas J. Jordan, the Governor of Switzerland, and Nguyen Thi Hong, the central bank chief of Vietnam, are mentioned.
Global Finance’s annual Central Banker Report Cards celebrate bank governors whose strategies outperformed their peers through originality, creativity and tenacity, mentioned the report.
Here are the central bank governors that earned an ‘A’ grade:
- Roberto Campos Neto of Brazil
- Amir Yaron of Israel
- Harvesh Kumar Seegolam of Mauritius
- Adrian Orr of New Zealand
Other governors earned an ‘A-‘ grade, including:
- Leonardo Villar of Colombia
- Hector Valdez Albizu of Dominican Republic
- Asgeir Jonsson of Iceland
- Perry Warjiyo of Indonesia
The Central Banker Report Cards, published annually by Global Finance since 1994, grade central bank governors of 101 countries, territories and districts, including the European Union, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Bank of Central African States and the Central Bank of West African States.
