Sanyukta Samaddar, IAS | 1999 Batch Officer
Sanyukta Samaddar, IAS is a seasoned civil servant with 25 years of experience in development administration, policy-making, planning, and financial management. A 1999-batch IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, she currently serves as the Principal Secretary, Political Pension & Civil Defence, in the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Over the years, she has played a pivotal role in governance at both the federal and sub-national levels, with nine years of service in the Government of India and fourteen years in the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
Her expertise in sustainable development has been widely recognized, having served as the Nodal Officer for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the Government of India. In this capacity, she represented NITI Aayog on international platforms, including the United Nations, ESCAP, and the G20, contributing to global discussions on the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda. She has also been instrumental in developing key public policy tools such as the SDG India Index, the National Multidimensional Poverty Index, and the SDG Urban Index, which have significantly shaped India’s development planning.
Currently, she also holds the position of Adviser (Sustainable Development Goals) at NITI Aayog, a role she has undertaken since February 2019. Her previous assignments at NITI Aayog include serving as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) and Director in the Heavy Electrical and Engineering Sector. Prior to her tenure at the central government level, she held various significant positions in the Government of Uttar Pradesh over a span of nearly 14 years. These included serving as District Magistrate & Collector in multiple districts, Chief Development Officer, and Special Secretary in the Department of Industries, among others.
Education
Sanyukta Samaddar’s academic background reflects her strong foundation in governance and policy-making. She holds an M.A. in Public Administration from Syracuse University (2008-2009), an M.A. in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University (1996-1998), and a B.A. (Honours) in Political Science from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata (1993-1996).
