The Central Government has appointed IAS Saurabh Garg to take on the additional charge of Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). This decision, conveyed through an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) on Tuesday, designates Garg, a 1991-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Odisha cadre, to the post. He presently holds the position of Secretary in the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment. Garg’s tenure in this new role will continue until the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further directives are issued.
Additionally, IAS officer Vivek Aggarwal, from the 1994 batch of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been granted a six-month extension on his additional charge as Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit – India (FIU-India). Aggarwal, currently serving as an Additional Secretary in the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance, has held the position of FIU-India Director since January 2023.
The decision to extend Aggarwal’s tenure was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), based on a proposal from the Department of Revenue.
